The Girl of Fire and Thorns

(Fire and Thorns #1)

by Rae Carson

2.5 Stars. I was really surprised that I didn’t get into this book barely at all. Especially after I saw that both Sarah J Mass and Renee Ahdieh rated it 5 stars. I think writing is what just didn’t do it for me. While the story concept is really strong, the actual execution of it is weak and a bit lazy. I feel like I was told that a lot of stuff happens off the page. The story is also action-packed, which the writing style lends itself to, however, I feel like the writer just used that style to get away with glossing over explanations for her magic system and development for the romance aspect of Elisa’s Journey. I found when things actually happened I didn’t care really because there was no breathing room to or a lack of investment in the character. I hope book two rectifies these issues.
